Not a chisel in the house...

<p>I needed a larger chisel than the ones I've got, so off I trotted to Builders' Warehouse, Fourways. Not immediately being able to find what I wanted, or indeed anything resembling a chisel, I gave in and spoke to an assistant - who admitted, to my astonishment, that not a single cold chisel of any size was to be found on their shelves. Astounded, down but not yet out, I then tried Builders' Express in Cedar Square and Builders' Warehouse in Northwold, at each of which I found a sickly assortment of four or five small chisels, but otherwise empty shelves. </p> <p>What next? "Sorry, sir, we're clean out of spanners; could I interest you in a diesel generator?" or perhaps: "Sorry, sir, we sold our last *****driver three weeks ago."</p> <p>I'm sure one could make up a really amusing sketch about this tragic state of affairs, but don't bother; Monty Python did one years ago.</p> <p>More seriously, what combination of *********** human inputs (there must surely have been more than one, and don't blame the computer) could result in a major hardware supermarket running out of cold chisels? It truly boggles the mind. Things are really getting bad...</p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
