No warranty for Chinese made product

I purchased an awning from this branch last year on the 4th September 2018. The awning was installed on my front door lather that month.

In December with the rains, a storm had very strong winds and blew the awning off its hinges. The plastic braces broke under the pressure of the storm.

I took the awning back to shop on the 4th January and told them the issue. I asked the service consultant Thabiso to contact the manufacturer to see if they could get a replacement unit for me. The consultant advised he would try to inquire as the manager was on leave. A few weeks passed and the consultant called and advised that the unit was from China and there was an agent in South Africa who sold them. The manager returned from leave and called me on the 15th January at 16.50 and told me it was the installers fault that the awning got blown away. I asked him how he got to the conclusion without even investigating the installation itself to which he responded that since noone else had come back to the store with complaints it meant the product was of good quality. If I had been a 4th person or so to complain maybe they would consider my case...to which i responded that was an insane statement to utter especially with the view that the manager was vouching for a Chinese made product which is shipped all the way from China. He arrogantly told me that this was not the manufacturer's fault...a manufacturer who sits all the way in China whom Sizwe has never met. He flatly refused to refund me and i advised that I did not need a refund but simply a replacement. I asked the manager Sizwe to come to my house and investigate the installation to back up his assumption. His assumption was that the installer most probably drilled 10mm holes instead of 8mm holes which made the installation weak. He agreed but never showed up to verify his assumption. I went back to the store last week and Sizwe told me he didn't have a car and would come the next day. Thabiso took my address again and Sizwe still has not showed up.

This was not a cut to measure item as the current policy mentions that these products are not returnable. I am not sure if this is standard procedure for returned damaged or inferior quality products especially for imports as the store has no policy against returns of inferior quality of such products. Or maybe my return was simply denied because I am a woman and not an installer. I did take the original receipt as proof of purchase as per current store policy as displayed in the store and still to this day i am waiting for Sizwe.

I have used many other branches Northriding, Robindale etc and have no had issues with any products purchased.

If this is policy can this be displayed in the store and customers advised that imports especially from China cannot be replaced or do not have a warranty but as for me Cosmo City is not a branch i will be returning to again.
