Injury to customer

My partner Matt Cocci, went shopping at Builders Warehouse Strubensvalley on the 3rd December. He requested from an employee there to please take down 4 wooden beams for him to buy. While trying to take the beams down the employee made an error and over 20 heavy wooden beams fell on himself and Matt. They called a medic who firstly moved them both (even though both of them had been in on the head and kneck) and then asked Matt if he wanted an ambulance. He was so confused and shocked he said he wants to go home. When arriving home (which I'm shock they let him leave in that state) his head was swollen in various places and he alot of bruising on his back and arms already. We rushed him to Flora Clinic in which he was still very confused. We met the employee from Builders at the casuality area, they had dropped him off and left him alone there. I was totally disgusted by the way they treat their injured employees.

Dr advised that both of them had to go in for a CT Scan, this was going to cost us around R10 0000 as Matt is inbetween Medical aids at the moment. In total we landed up paying over R12 000 that day. We had to ask family to help us.

In the interim we never received any call from managament to check on Matt. I proceeded to call the manager Joey as I was shocked at how this was all handled. I was especially shocked that they didn't take both of them to hospital immediately. THe manager proceeded to yell at me and tell me that my husband didn't want treatment. I told him my husband is concused and doesn't really know what is going. I then proceeded to ask him for help as I didn't have R12 000 to pay , he told me NO WAY I must wait for their claims department. I even mentioned to him how his employee is sitting alone at the clinic with no represantive from Builders and how disgusting this was. He proceeded to get very aggresive also when I mentioned how they failed in Health & Safety procedures.

We were advsied that they will pay all our bills we must just keep sending them, we now get told that only once will they pay out. The problem is that my husband might have long term damages that will only show up later. He already has back problems and is currently going to physio. In the interim we have so far payed around R15 000 in medical claims. But builders now tell us we must follow their protocol ??????? What kind of customer services is this ???? They failed in Health & Safety !! They failed to deal with situation correctly and with care !!! But now we must wait and follow their terms ??? I am absolutely disgusted

I am grateful my 5 year old son was not with my husband that day as he would've been ****ed. He usually goes with him.

We have taken photos of that area where the public walks and it's shocking how neglegant that branch is. Two days later the incident it still looks like a train smash. I just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience that you’ve received from our Strubens Valley branch, with regards to your husband’s injury. This isn't the type of customer service that we would want you to receive.

I've escalated this to management for it to be looked into and for corrective measures to be put in place.
