DO NOT use Bathrooms Cape Town!!!!

In the beginning all started okay with the removing of the tiles and all the old fittings and fixtures, we visited some bathroom stores at Builders Warehouse where Iban ***ner of Bathrooms Cape Town) gave us some advice on what to buy and look for. He also was willing to collect all items purchased at the stores on our behalf which was really great.

When the tiling began we quickly realised that there was a problem, the porcelain tiles were chipped and still being put on the wall, the work was incredibly sloppy and my husband had to inspect each days work and ask them to redo the tiles where necessary. After our daily inspection we were told that one of the bathroom walls was skew and the tilers continued to tile right upto the top of the wall leaving an ugly thick layer of tile grout. It was horrific. Iban the owner of Bathrooms Cape Town recommended that that they break down our bathroom wall and rebuild a straight wall for an extra R20 000 needless to say we were furious. With a simple google search we found out that tiling 101 is to check your surfaces before you tile and if the surface is uneven it needs to be plastered evenly before you tile. This resulted in us having to buy more tiles because the tilers, tiled basically the entire wall even though it was skew and looked terrible and untidy. I then recommended that they only tile half way which solved the problem phew. At this point my husband and I were already considering parting ways with Iban and the Bathrooms Cape Town team

The tiles were mostly chipped and we eventually bought chrome edging to hide the shoddy job. Our initial quote was approximately R 55 000 we were then billed for the extra tiles and the chrome edging installation etc, another R 6000 that was needed to fix and cover up their mess. I was not happy about this but my husband decided to just pay the amount even though I do not feel we should have had to pay as the cost incurred was due to poor workmanship.

After allot of micromanaging from my husband we were left with 2 aesthetically pleasing bathrooms we settled with Iban and were relieved to part ways after this nightmare of an experience.

Note the house was not cleaned after the work was completed, cement was left on the walls and where the plumbing was redone they did not offer to re-paint. We were left with ugly cement spots on our exterior of our new home.

We then discovered a whole list of things wrong with the installation i.e hot water coming out of the cold tap and cold water coming out of the hot water tap, leaking bath, shower and sink, loose fittings taps, shower heads, toilet seat and toilet paper rail and last but not least a walk in shower where the water did not fully drain. When I notified Iban to he never responded to me and only responded to my husband a week later. He then only wanted to come and fix everything a few weeks later which my husband and I felt was incredibly poor customer service. There was basically something wrong with everything they installed.

We had most of this fixed by another company at an extra cost of R 12 000. Our hot and cold tap mix up will be quite an expensive fix due to having to break out the tiles. We are still suffering from the incompetencies of Bathrooms Cape Town and Iban and his team. There is a funny smell in one of the bathrooms if a shower is taken I suspect the water is not draining properly. I have no idea what is still to come and how many more things we will need to fix and what this will cost us in the end :(

My recommendation to anyone wanting to remodel there bathrooms, first ensure that there are contactable references on hand - do your own checks to be safe before it costs you way more than what you budgeted for. Oh and don't use Bathrooms Cape Town!!!!

Hi Ivor, Please note that this complaint is in no way directed and Builders Warehouse. I merely mention you as one of the meeting points in the beginning of my complaint. Apologies for the confusion.
