Builders Warehouse Meadowdale Fools Pensioners

I am a pensioner and I need to tell people about my experience with false advertising at Builders Warehouse Meadowdale. Just prior to lock-down I bought several items from Builders Warehouse (BW) It was on a Wednesday when BW claim to give pensioners a 10% discount on goods bought. When she scanned in the above product it would not give me my discount. I questioned why not she said it seemed that the price was below cost but she could not say for sure. I actually told the teller that if the price was a mess up by BW it was not my problem so I needed the discount I as promised. She did manage to get me the discount on the other items bought. As I was in a hurry I said I would take it up with management at a later stage as I was not happy as I tried to always buy on Wednesdays because I was a pensioner.

Some time later I was in the store and saw the manager, I spoke to him about this. He told me to email him the details, which I did. Since then I have been refused the discount claiming that they had signage up all around stating all discounts are subject to various clauses. No reason why no discount, just that they had a pamphlet outlining certain clauses!

They even attached a poor copy of the said sign which I could not read the clauses on it anyway! The problem for them was that no such signage was either seen by me or the teller anywhere in the store. If there was one she failed to point it out to me. Reason? There WAS NO such sign. I did however see the ones that said pensioners got discounts, a totally different sign and th4e one I base all of my claims on.

Now, despite my persistent argument that if they failed to have signs up claiming subjective clauses, ESPECIALLY next to those that said pensioners got a 10% discount, why are they refusing to give it to me? Also, what causes here they referring to that said I failed the litmus test? They still have not told me. Just that they had a sign.

They NOW claim (and no doubt after my dispute have run around putting these so called posters up everywhere) that because they had them I could not get the discount. Note they did not say because the price was below cost or anything else. They just bad a sign with subjective clauses.

I really am tired of these so big outlets taking advantage of people through false advertising to save maybe R100! I mean, come on.

My advice to all pensioners is to avoid BW due to unfair and discriminatory advertising which promises one thing yet refuses to grant such offers when asked for. Go to other entities who sell these products. I know that I do not spend much each month with BW, maybe R1500 to R2 000, but that should not be used as an excuse by implying I am nothing in their lives so go away. My business is now going to go to outlets which offer the exact same products and who also offer discounts to pensioners. They can have my money. Never BW again.
