Builders warehouse klerksdorp refuses to give me my refund for a defective product

I bought a trimtech trimmer on 19 Jan 2024 and tried to return it on 03 Feb 2024. The 1st time we used the trimmer it smoked and had a electric burn smell. I went to builders to return it and they redted it and confirmed that i had that burn smell & also smoked. Kagiso from builders warehouse called the trimtech rep and explained the situation. I also explained that i no longer wanted the product and wanted a refund. The rep agreed and asked kagiso to ask for a refund from the manager. Thats when all hell broke loose. Tha manager tamryn said i will not be refunded and that the.company policy does not allow it. My biggest problem is had this policy been explained to me before purchasing the product i probably would have chosen not to buy from builders warehouse. I cannot be forced to be bound by a policy which was not made transparent prior to the purchase. Now that there is a problem i suddenly cannot get a refund. This policy of hiding information from customers all in an effort to get a sale needs to come to an end. Im now forced to keep an item i dont want so builders can make a profit and tamryn can get her sales target. I want my refund. Thats all.
