Builders Warehouse and Le Grand Power Products in South Africa
Went into Builders Warehouse and saw a nifty electrical outlet socket. Has a 3 pin plug a 2 pin plug and 2 usb charger ports. Bought it. Took it home. assumption is its sold at a retail outlet, it should be easy to install. Take old plug out match 3 wires , connect those 3 to new plug all ok. Take out of packet open existing plug disconnect existing 3 wires try to wire new plug. See that the plug is 3 plugs not one unit and I need to add wires from 3 pin plug to feed usb and 2 pin plug. Need to wire on actual plug itself, its not ready to just plug and play. Look in packet, no instructions. Search online at Le Grand no instructions to download. Go to Le Grand website today look again. No downloads, but there is a live chat. Start chatting to agent online, chap by name of wade Jacobs. I ask for help. I cant help i must get an electrician to fit it. i ask for a small leaflet that explains how to wire the modules. Get told and I quote ""Rory this product is only under warranty if installed bu an electrician. If you do this installation by your self and something has to go wrong for example there is an electrical fire we as legrand online or legrand themselves will not be liable for the damages, This is why there is no instruction on how to wire the unit. I do apologize about the inconvenience caused but unfortunately i can not consult on this issue. " My reply is and again I quote "im asking for help to install a product you sell you now hide behind warranty issues is the product that bad that you so worried about warranty " Further dialogue is as follows "Wade Jacobs This product is a leading brand in the market. Are you an electrician ? You nope im a customer Wade Jacobs So then please consult a qualified electrician for this installation"
My question is two fold and aimed at first Builders and then Le Grand. To Builders I ask how do you stock in a retail outlet a product that needs to be installed by an expert but there is no warning that an expert is required. Surely if its a retail outlet the product should have instructions aimed at a consumer. To Le Grand I ask if your product is so great why do you hide behind warranty issues. Surely instructions with a disclaimer will cover your legal butts. Or is the product that bad that all you are concerned about is warranty. To both Builders and Le Grand I have the transcript of the online assistance. It makes for interesting reading if either of you are interested which I doubt. Oh and by the by, the online help said I was talking to a Wade Jacobs. Only when I insisted that I was going to take this further did the person then say its not Wade but my name is Dean. Seems this company isn't worried about been truthful. why did he think it was okay to talk as a Wade Jacobs when it was Dean. Surely that should have been put straight at the beginning of the chat. It seems its about making money and not taking responsibility.
AVOID LE GRAND PRODUCTS UNLESS YOU ARE AN ELECTRICIAN.
