Afrox gas out of stock, after call that it is back in stock. No queue for backlogged customers?

So normally, when a store doesn't have stock, you ask them to order more and let you know when there is more in stock. While most items are not normally sold out immediately, the staff normally reserves one for the querying customer. THIS IS NOT HOW BUILDERS WAREHOUSE WORKS!!

I bought a Afrox gas bottle little over two months ago and it ran out on Saturday. Taking it back I was greeted by a pleasant lady at the front desk informing me that they are out of gas. They took the bottle and wrote me my credit note. Gas was scheduled for deliver on Tuesday, she said.

Come Tuesday, I received a call that Afrox has made their delivery and that I can come and collect my gas. I inform the lady on the phone, that the earliest I, a normal hardworking tax paying citizen, can be there, is at 15:00, seeing as normal company hours normally ends at 17:00. Stuck in traffic, I only reach Builders at 15:30. I was greeted by a lady looking at me rather strangely, as I stumble for my credit note. "I am here for gas", I said. With the snobbiest of attitudes, she replies with: "Out of stock". I proceed to tell here that I was phoned this morning stating that gas is available. "It is sold out she said". Imagine the cold chills running down my spine - quite similar to the cold chills I can expect tonight with no gas.

If you are going to go through the effort to write down a client's name and number, process to call them to tell that stock is available, which you didn't have when they first came to you, THEN WHY ON GODS GREEN EARTH would you not reserve stock for them? I mean, I came to you. I paid. I returned, undamaged. You didn't have stock. You received new stock. You phoned me. And I am still stuck without gas because it is sold out. Shouldn't there be something like, first come first serve basis here? Clearly not.
