Service

I engaged the services of Build-Tech to do renovations around my home. I had solar geysers installed. The owner removed my electric geyser which was new, and took it without my permission. I asked the owner about the geyser, and although he agreed that he took it, he did not return the geyser to me or reimburse me for the geyser. The second experience involved extensive renovations to my bathroom. I requested that wood panelli is installed. The owner and his employee informed me that they had never installed wooden panelling in a bathroom, but I was reassured that it would be ok. I was informed by the owner that there was damp from the adjacent bathroom, which might affect the renovation. I was not informed of the extent to which the renovations would be impacted, nor was I given an indication of how severe these might be. About 2 weeks after the wooden panelling was installed and the bathroom renovation was completed, the panelling started to concertina and pull away from the wall. The owner informed me that the cost of redoing this would be mine to bear, as he had informed me that the damp on one wall might affect the wooden panelling. I queried whether this was expected so soon after completing the job. I was informed that if I wanted it fixed, I would have to pay for the work again. The last issue was that I was asked for up-front payment for the labour and materials required to floor my entire house. I informed the owner that budget did not allow for the installation of the flooring in the kitchen, and the owner reassured me that the supplier of the flooring would keep my paid-for flooring until I was ready to install it. I was not given a time limit and I asked whether this system guaranteed that my flooring would be available, even if a few years lapsed between me paying for the flooring, and installation. I was reassured that I owned the flooring and that I could take my time with renovating the kitchen. Three years later (November 2024) I contacted the owner of Build-Tech to request the balance of my flooring. I was informed that neither he nor the supplier had my flooring, as they had left the balance in my spare-room when I was not on the premises. I requested proof of this in the form of a signed invoice showing that this was indeed the case. I was not provided with the invoice. I tried to call the owner of Build-Tech to discuss the way forward, including compensation but my call was cut.
