A way to ruin your wedding anniversary

My wife booked a picnic at Budmarsh as part of our 4-year anniversary celebrations. As part of arranging the picnic my wife queried in an email whether children are allowed at Budmarsh, as we have a 4-month old baby. Budmarsh initially didn’t respond to this query. My wife sent another email with the same query, again with no response. After the third time my wife sent an email with the same query, urging Budmarsh to respond, only then did a Lady phone my wife and informed her that it is up to us if we want to bring our baby as they don’t have a picnic area inside for when the weather is not baby-friendly. The same Lady sent a follow-up email which states “We don’t accommodate kids under the age of 12-years”. My wife then phoned her back to clarify the comment in the email as it is not what was understood in the initial phone call. The lady clarified her comment in the email by mentioning the comment’s intention was to say they don’t cater for children under 12 by way of facilities or catering but it is up to us whether we want to bring our baby along or not.
If we knew that children are not allowed we would not have brought our baby along, but given the above, we therefore decided to bring our baby with as the weather was lovely. After arriving, the staff showed us to a lovely picnic spot next to a dam, under a huge tree. We settled down and they brought us a lovely picnic hamper witch we immediately dug into. A few into our lunch Mike, the general manager at Budmarsh, came to spoil everything. At first, when he introduced himself I though what good client service of the manager coming to find out how we are. How fast I realised this was far from the case, as his first comment was “Don’t you read your emails?”, which was followed by a barrage of irate remarks regarding their apparent “no-kids policy”. Nothing we could say, including the recount of the above phone conversation, could dampen his rudeness towards us. As a matter of fact, he kept on arguing and said that he will show us the email trail that proves his point. We were so offended and felt so unwelcome that we paid our bill and decided to leave immediately. Our intention was never to disregard any policy or to receive special treatment and that’s why we find the way we were treated so very rude. Mike, thanks for making a memorable 4th wedding anniversary, not because of 5-star treatment bur rather the total lack thereof.
