Falsely accused for Damage to Hire Vehicle

Damage to FR07JXGP – WAS NOT CAUSED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MY CARE.

On 6 July 2017 I returned the above mentioned vehicle to CPT International Airport. I left shortly thereafter. 15 minutes later I was called and informed that the car had left rear door damage. I immediately returned to check the accusation / situation. Upon returning I saw the scratches which were already there when I collected and was not caused by me, or during the time that I had the vehicle in my possession since 3 July 2017 10:40 up until delivery.

I explained the above to the AVIS yard supervisor on duty and wrote a statement on the Damage / Incident sheet (as he requested) to this effect. I stated on record that the scratched door did not happen while the car was in my care. I also told the yard supervisor that when I collected the vehicle the lady behind the counter old me that the car “had some damage”. That is all she told me and I acknowledged that the vehicle has damage. When I left after writing the statement, I was told that, “everything was fine and that I will not be charged for the repair of the door and that I can go now”.

Today on the 10th July 2017 I get an SMS which states, Dear Renter, rental E ********** 33 has been billed R3827.02 (Damages only subject to change) excl Vat. I am shocked. I am infatuated. I have never felt more de*****ed in my life. I am furious at the disgusting attitude and service received from AVIS BUDGET at Cape Town International. I want my money back immediately and I will fight until I do. Here is what I am going to do now.

1. HelloPeter.com - Done.

2. Linkedin – go check my profile and note the 10 500 respected business followers.

3. The Cape Times and Cape Argus. I am old friends with the editor of the Times and will make sure they investigate this and runs an article on “Falsely charging Customers for Damages”

4. Hand the matter over to the Legal department at SP Pump Services.

How dare AVIS BUDGET ***** money from me like this. I recently hired a Datsun Go from AVIS and the thing had Ten times more scratches & dents on it than the damage inspection even showed. Also note: Your procedures are flawed. When I hire cars from Thrifty or Hertz, a representative always comes out with me to inspect the vehicle before I leave and we sign off together. When I hire from AVIS cape Town, no one EVER bothers to inspect your vehicles with yours customers. That is where you will lose in a court of law. Kindly return my money immediately with interest.
