Ripped-off by Budget Insurance
On 29th March 2019 we were traveling to the South Coast for a week's holiday when just before the well known Marian Hill Toll Plaza, a truck claimed he lost his breaks and slammed into the vehicle behind us, who in turn, crashed into the back of us. Luckily when I heard the 1st bang, I had space to accelerate so when I was hit, it wasn't that bad. The vehicle was ok to drive, so we continued with our holiday and then drove back to JHB. We brought the vehicle in 2001 and it has never been in an accident and we are paying insurance on the book value being R25 900. I was informed after the assessment that Budget was writing-off the vehicle and will pay me R5524. I almost had a heart attack and told them they are robbing me blind. After talking to the manager Aleena Pillay, they called back to say they will only retain 50% of the book value, plus my excess of R3800 and paid me out R9150. I've been paying for cover on the book value and have a quote of +- R18500 to repair the vehicle. I find it to be **************** that they wish to write-off the vehicle and pay me so little, when I have been paying for the full book value, plus the car is not a write-off. The Toyota Tazz's are sort after vehicles and I believe Budget were hoping to acquire the vehicle so they can make a profit on the sale of it. To withhold my excess, which will get claimed back and pay me out so little that I cannot get my vehicle fixed is ********.
