Fridge Claim denied without thorough enough testing

We contacted our household insurance regarding our fridge only working intermittently. It worked perfectly, then after all the power failures/surges suddenly started working intermittently. It would switch on and run perfectly for 4 or 5 hours, cooling/freezing as it should, then the motor would switch off (as it does when reaching correct cooling temp) and not switch on again (as though it was in standby mode, inside light still coming on but no airflow/cooling). We would then switch it on and off and it would immediately start cooling/freezing fine again. Budget sent out Komu to assess the fridge and upon collection I informed them that the problem was intermittent. They came back with tests only done once on the fridge (while fridge was running properly) and said as it was working, it was not electronical, but rather gas related. There are only one set of tests from their technicians, not a second set that should have been done when fridge was in the "standby/non-working" mode.

After searching, a few technicians commented that it didn't make sense, as our type of fridge usually didn't require regassing. We then got our our technician in to test the fridge, and he said that if it was gas, then the fridge wouldn't be working perfectly every time it was switched on and off again... no gas would mean NO cooling. When questioning this, the original technician said it could also be the motor that was overheating. Our technician countered this with the fact that the motor would not switch on again immediately when rebooting if it was overheated. His damage report also stipulated that the problem, after his assessment, was indeed an electrical component which was most likely surge related, causing part of one of the components to be partially faulty, and therefor only working properly some of the time. The dispute information was sent through, and the insurance stood by their refusal due to them not believing it was "surge/electrical".

I feel that the original tests run on the fridge were not thorough enough or according to the complain that the fridge was working intermittently, and therefor needed to be tested in both working and non-working states. Their final response was an email stating that they are now "closing their files" on this matter, even though our technicians results contradicted their technicians findings.

Very disappointed in the level of service we received with this claim, as I feel the tests that Komu did were inconclusive as they were not done when the fridge was in it's "non-working" state.
