False Advertising

I recently responded to a challenge, which Budget Insurance sent via SMS. Similar to that is flighted by Outsurance on various media platforms. In their “challenge”, they claim that if they cannot MATCH OR BETTER what you are currently paying on your car insurance, they commit to giving you a R500 Shoprite Voucher, if you had been claim-free for more than three (3) years with your current insurance company. It is a very small “Carrot” compared to the likes of Outsurance and Old Mutual, but it is the principle behind the thing. When you respond to the SMS, an agent would duly call you and encourage you to send your Current Insurance Schedule to the website.

This I did, with the understanding that they would prepare me a quote, which mirrors exactly what I am currently covered for, at a better premium. Then Radio Silence. I then had the trepidation that Budget Insurance would try to repudiate the matter and worm their way out of it. The only inference I could draw was that Budget Insurance could neither match nor better my current premium. Needless to say, to this day, that after a numerous mails and messages, which were never returned, I am still none the wiser and feel that I have no other option, but to escalate the matter.

I thought that I could not be the only person and they are probably getting away with it, as some people might not have the fortitude to pursue a matter of this nature.

I can only surmise that they did not intend to honour the promotion. To my knowledge, the promotion still runs to this day and there is no mention that "Prospective Clients" would be subjected to untold frustration in the event that they choose to take-up the challenge. I am of the opinion that it constitutes “False Promotions” and just another “****” and waste of time, which is being run by Budget Insurance, which the public needs to be aware of. I need Senior Management to remedy this situation, as I am now forced to follow this route.
