Early Debit Caused Bank Charges and Financial Hardship – No Accountability from Budget Insurance

I am extremely disappointed with the service from Budget Insurance regarding a recent debit issue.

My debit order was processed before the agreed debit date, despite my account only being funded for the correct scheduled date. The money that was available in my account was meant to cover other important expenses, but it was taken unexpectedly due to the early debit attempt. As a result, I was charged an honouring/housing fee of R200 by my bank and was even forced to borrow money to cover my other commitments.

When I queried the matter, Budget Insurance shifted the blame to the bank and claimed there was an issue with the DebiCheck approval. This makes no sense because the same DebiCheck mandate has been successfully debiting for a long time without any problems.

I then went to the bank myself, and the bank confirmed that the issue originated from the insurance side. Instead of taking accountability for debiting early, both parties are now passing responsibility between each other while I am left dealing with the financial consequences.

Customers should not suffer financial penalties and financial stress because of incorrect debit processing and poor communication. I expect Budget Insurance to properly investigate this matter, take responsibility, and reimburse the R200 fee caused by their incorrect debit handling.
