DOUB**** MY EXCESS WITHOUT INFORMING ME

I purchased a BMW 3series in March 2014 and insured it with Budget insurance for R1800 a month with a fixed excess of R5090. I was in an unfortunate accident this last week and called my insurance company to claim. When I called to claim I was told that my excess had doubled to R10,500 and that a letter had been posted to inform me of this. When I asked the agent why my excess had been doubled she said that budget felt that I was paying too low for my premiums.<br> <br> I am in absolute shock and disgust that an insurance company can more than double my insurance excess without having any consent from me of this change. They subsequently emailed me a letter today informing me that my premium has been changed to 10,500. I have attached the letter above.<br> I am pretty sure that this kind of policy amendment is ********** and I am tired of big corporates taking advantage of people when we need them the most. Does the Consumer Protection Act not protect us from this? Someone please help!<br>
