Faulty analog stick on controller

We bought an Xbox S1 at bt games online in May only to find out the controller is faulty. When we went to shop in cape gate the shop assistant told us there is always a faulty batch and we need to contact Microsoft ourselves which is an international company and their supplier, so why must the customer that bought it from bt games phone their supplier. I feel it's unfair towards me or any other customer.
