Diamond falls out?!?!?!????

My fiance purchased the most beautiful engagement ring for me at Browns Tyger Valley on 28 January 2016 and made me the happiest woman on earth. We had it resized about a month later. To my absolute horror, on 21 May while at work, the diamond fell out of the ring and was nowhere to be found. I was beyond devastated. We took the ring in to Browns and after a quick examination, the sales assistant advised that one of the claws had broken and that this is what caused the diamond to fall out. She continued to say that I must have bumped it against something to cause this, and that my insurance would probably not pay out. She also said that these things hardly ever happen, but do in fact happen. After reading all of these reviews it seems to be a trend that Browns diamonds just fall out for no apparent reason. Firstly, an engagement ring is supposed to last a lifetime. Secondly, I am an accountant. I do not work in construction and I don't take part in any heavy handed activities. Thirdly, it will probably take us 5 years to pay off the bladdy ring. Lastly....the ring did not come with a "caution/fragile/handle with care" sticker. By some miracle I found the diamond the next day. We took it to Browns and we were then advised that we had to pay R700 to have it fixed????? There are no words to explain how horrified I am. After the emotional trauma that I have suffered I would have expected at the very least that they would fix it for free and provide additional compensation after trying to convince me that it was my fault and not a mistake or default on their part. It seems to be some sort of conspiracy in order to make more money. Browns has basically given us a big fat "brown eye" in return for the thousands spent on the ring. I plan to write to the Sunday Times, Carte Blanche and the National Consumer Commision in this regard, because I find it to be a completely unacceptable, disgraceful TREND. Thanks to Browns, I now find myself aware of my every move and will continue to live in fear that this highly sentimental item will simply disappear at any given moment. Thanks for that. Good on you!
