Unresolved Issues, Poor Workmanship, and Cost Concerns
I engaged Brothers Contracting to carry out building and renovation work at my property. After initially working with their father, he recommended that they take over the project, as his focus is in plumbing. Unfortunately, my experience became increasingly challenging over the course of the project, both in terms of workmanship and overall project management. Early concerns arose when cracks began appearing in newly installed drywall within days of completion. When I raised this, my concerns were not acknowledged, and I did not feel they were properly investigated or resolved. Following this, I arranged for an independent contractor to inspect the work. It was noted during this inspection that non-stainless steel *****s and fixings had been used throughout the property. Given the coastal environment, where corrosion is a known risk, this raised concerns for me regarding the durability and longevity of the work. In addition to workmanship concerns, I experienced ongoing issues with planning, execution, and cost management. These included delays that resulted in additional expenses (such as extended kennelling and storage), repeated rework following installations that did not meet expectations, and areas of the project that remained incomplete or were not finished to a satisfactory standard. There were also instances where materials appeared to have been left exposed to the elements, resulting in deterioration, as well as damage occurring during the course of the project which required repair or replacement. Communication became increasingly difficult over time, with concerns not being resolved to my satisfaction and differing views arising regarding responsibility, materials, and scope of work. Due to the above, I ultimately terminated the working relationship. At the time of writing, there are amounts paid in advance for work that has not been completed and have not yet been refunded. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend exercising caution before engaging Brothers Contracting. At the time of writing, amounts paid in advance for incomplete work remain outstanding and unresolved.
