Refusal to accept any responsibility for negligence and clear incompetence

On 9 October 2023, Britzcouriers, George, loaded a shared load of various boxes, paintings, persian rugs, two bicycles and two Vespa Scooters at our home in Jhb. We were informed beforehand that the insurance would only cover an amount of up to R150 000; balance to be covered by ourselves which we did. Albeit that the staff were very friendly and courteous, it was clear that they had no competence, nor the required equipment to move the scooters which were in absolutely perfect condition when they were loaded. There was no ramp and no crates to move scooters in. The load was packed in a trailer behind a 8 ton truck.

At arrival at Pinnacle Point, the truck driver was refused entry due to the trailer (which we thought the company would have cleared prior to arrival). As a consequence, all our goods had to be repacked from the trailer into the truck. At this stage, we realised that the scooters both had serious damage to the top boxes and lower body parts, as a result of poor packing methodology. Two of our persian rugs were severely water damaged. The truck driver immediately said that he had previously reported the water leaks with management (obviously not attended to). Two of our strong plastic crate lids were damaged beyond repair despite having had “fragile stickers” placed on them – due to very heavy boxes packed on top.

PLEASE NOTE: Despite the damage being as a result of absolute negligence, poor levels of competence and insufficient planning on the part of management to provide the necessary equipment to safeguard clients’ assets, THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE. UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED TO TAKE THE RISK, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY – RATHER GET A DIFFERENT QUOTATION.”
