Sold the wrong part, then refused a refund — Order ***
I bought an alternator from Brits Brothers for my 2016 Renault Clio IV (900cc). Their agent, Twinkie, confirmed it would fit before I paid. It didn't. What arrived wasn't even a Renault part — HDM Auto Electrical Parts in Boksburg identified it as an Isuzu alternator and bench-tested it as dead-on 5 September 2026.
So not only was it the wrong part for my car, but it also didn't even work. When I raised this, their rep William told me on WhatsApp that a refund "wasn't available" only store credit and that if I didn't like it, I should just keep the broken part. No manager, no further discussion, conversation closed on his end.
That's not how the law works. Under the Consumer Protection Act (Sections 55 & 56), when goods fail to meet the required standard, the customer chooses the remedy - repair, replacement, or refund. It's not the supplier's call. Brits Brothers' own returns policy says the same thing: they take responsibility, including refunds, when the wrong part is supp****. This is exactly that case and they still tried to forb me off with credit I never agreed to.
I emailed their management directly (14 September and gave them a clear deadline of the 16 September 2026. Nothing. No response at all.
Reading other reviews here, this isn't a one-off — other customers describe the same thing: wrong parts and refunds quietly turned into store credit without consent. If that's the pattern, buyers should know about it before they hand over their money. I'm escalating to the National Consumer Commission.
