Brits auto body false evaluation of damages

Recently I was involved in a car accident and I had my car towed to the closest Outsurance surveyor which was Brits autobody. They checked the car and wrote up all the damages to the vehicle and submitted it to Outsurance and they had found the car to be a write off(42% of the cars value in damages) non economical to repair. I then went to Brits auto body with my own mechanic to inspect the car to find that what they had written as damages to the car wasn't damaged at all or had very minor damages. They even wrote that i needed a replacement number plate and fog lights which were both in perfect condition despite the head on collision. They quoted 2nd hand parts too, to make the total damage cost less, "helping me out" he said. I had 2 options with the insurance, 1 -- take full payment of the cars book value( 60k) and they keep the car or 2--- take 50% of the cars book value after excess has been paid( 30K - excess) and I get to keep the car, so I took option 2,

I ended up fixing the car for under 10k (2000 rand went to parts and the rest to labor.

It came to me that what was going on was that if I had followed their advice (Brits auto body and Outsurance) who STRONGLY advised me several times through out the ordeal to just take full payout of insurance, i would have lost the car that could have been fixed for not much more than my excess.

Brits auto body would have used the parts in the car that were ALL still working fine as the replacement 2nd parts and would sell them to me as 2nd hand spares, they would have repaired the car for them selves for the amount I did, and then sold it again at retail value.

This is terrible service and I urge everyone to get an opinion from a mechanic not affiliated to the insurance company as they work in cahoots with each other to pretend to help out the client but actually just robbing them of their vehicle or charging them an excessive amount.

I ended up getting the car repaired for 2k over excess..
