PATHETIC SERVICE DELIVERY AND COMMUNCATION

Salesman PROMISED that my shipment of furniture packed in 11/2015 would be shipped mid Dec & be waiting in Melbourne by the end of Jan for delivery by the first week of Feb. From mid Dec until the first week of Jan we battled to get confirmation that the shipment had left South Africa. On the 18/01/16 we received a shipping confirmation that the shipment had left Durban on the 5Jan & was due to dock in Melbourne on 9Feb. The Australian agent advised that the shipment should have cleared customs & be available for delivery in the week of 22/02. We then booked our flights & alternative accommodation for the interim period. On the 12Feb we requested confirmation that the ship had docked in Melbourne. The shipping co. informed us that the shipment was only due to dock in Melbourne on 03/03 & that the shipment was currently in Singapore. On demanding an explanation for the month delay we were informed that it was due to bad weather in Cape Town & the Chinese new year! None of the delays were communicated to us at any stage. We have had no further communication from them after requesting compensation for additional expenses we have had to incur due to the month long delay.

Hello mhal40,

Dear Michelle, At the outset may we sincerely apologize fro the unforeseen delay in expediting the delivery of your part load shipment to Melbourne. Unfortunately part load shipments are serviced without guarantee of delivery dates. Part load shipments, and shipments in general are unfortunately susceptible to delays caused by bad weather conditions, port congestion delays etc. Your shipment was unfortunately affected by both scenarios. Our appointed shipping line failed to advise us of these delays to enable us to communicated same to you.
We are addressing the matter with the Ship's agency office in South Africa with the view of gaining some type of compensation to you for the inconvenience caused. We assure you that the unfortunate circumstances and causes of the mentioned delay were factors that occurred outside the parameters of our control, however we will in due course attempt to gain some form of compensation.

We thank you for your understanding in advance and will revert to you soonest with a proposal of compensation.

Warm regards

Ben Nienaber
