Such shoddy, careless service from British Airways

I was a first class passenger on BA56 to London on Sa****ay 18 June. My journey started in Cape Town when I flew on BA 6416 to Johannesburg at 2pm. My bag never made it to London, or if it has, no-one knows where it is. I received an email whilst in transit in Johannesburg saying my bag had not arrived in JNB with me. I was told it would come up on the next flight, and if it missed BA 56, would go to London on the later flight that evening. I logged the bag as missing when I arived in London.

Since then I have made almost ten calls to BA in London and South Africa. Through one caring and helpful lady called Maria in Cape Town, I managed to obtain the container number and the new unaccompanied baggage tag number that my bag had supposedly left SA on. That tag said my bag left Cape Town on BA 6418, the next flight out of Cape Twon after mine, and was to continue to London on BA 56.

I provided all this information to the London number call Centre on Monday morning, 24 hours after arriving. To obtain this information took an hour of my time and quite some international call expense. Funny that I could get this information from BA in Cape Town, but BA in London could not. Since then I have still not heard a word from BA. Each time I call, I got offered aplogies for the inconvenience, and am spun a whle new styory how this person and that team are trying to locate my bag.

Quite extraordinary, given the supposed power of computer systems today, that a bag that is tagged and has been scanned into BA's tracking system, can just disappear. More than that is the barrier that BA has created, that does not defer authority or accountability to any person to deal with these type of issues on behalf of their passengers. They hide behind faceless call centres and really have no care or interest in dealing speedily with passenger issues. Either that, or in this type of situation, when a bag does not get to its destination, their systems can not adequately provide information on the location of a specifically tagged item.

This is the second time in two years that BA has lost one of our bags. The last time was on a flight from M****ille to London in 2014. In that instance the bag was recovered and delivered to us a week later, damaged in the process. At least that was at the end of our holiday then, this time it is at the beginning, and what a miserable 48 hours it has been.

Another call to BA this morning brought nothing different - " we are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused". Such poor and faceless service deserves to be noted and distributed so that the public can be aware not to fly with British Airways.
