DO NOT use Brightrock

I picked up shoulder issues in 2023 which eventually led to an operation later that year, cause is nerve related. Due to complications during the operation, they severed and damaged nerves, causing irreversible damage. Since November 2023 its been a back and forth with Brightrock. Because my policy is less than 2 years, they've requested my entire history, which is fine, but they have nit picked at every possible thing that could be related to my right shoulder. The amount of back and forth emails, phone calls about the same things over and over again. They eventually wanted me to sign and disclose mental health issues, back and neck pain issues and another disclosure based upon things picked up on the medical records. I requested an in-person meeting with them, which I had. After a very lengthy meeting they concluded that these disclosures were not needed and that I didn't breach my contract, or **** at inception. Note if I signed these forms I would have cut my own hands off, and they INSISTED I sign these 3 forms prior to my meeting, knowing I would then accept these so-called underlying issues. They also questioned my right shoulder and that I had underlying issue and not disclosed this issue at inception. They had my entire medical history and there was nothing that backed their statement, yet that was their approach? We concluded in the meeting that there was no undisclosed issues when policy was taken out, and that my claim is not regarding that issue, but as a result of a botched surgery that has left me with a disability. Since this conclusion its been back and forth again with the underwriters, and the branch manager cant even give straight answers, in fact all I have received is false promises and dates that come and go.

Its now been 5 months since I started the claim process, I haven't received my initial claim for sick leave due to over 2 months recovery, its taken up my time from work, I've had to make and pay for doctors appointments to get forms filled out, I've been accused of not disclosing information (lying), I was forced to sign paperwork disclosing issues that I don't have, I've been given false feedback, I've had to frequently ask for feedback otherwise I'd get none and all whilst I'm battling with the after effects of the botched surgery.

Something that you pay for monthly that you wish you never have to use, and when something bad happens and you need to use them it causes more trauma than relief. The product Brightrock sells on paper might look good, but its not. I cant imagine what my wife has to deal with should something happen to me, and by reading reviews in regards to deaths and Brightrock, it seems to be worse.

I would NOT recommend to ANYONE. Go to FMI (now Bidvest), stay away from Brightrock. Do not be fooled

Dear Bernard O Thank you again for making us aware of your frustration regarding the assessment of your claim. We’ve received confirmation that your claim has been approved and you should receive payment shortly. During the assessment of your claim, we became aware of additional information that was not disclosed during your application. Based on this additional information, we requested that you complete further questionnaires and requested further details from your doctors so that we could assess the additional clinical information to establish whether it would have any impact on your policy and your claim. Our Head of Claims met with you and your financial adviser in Cape Town on 11 March to explain these requirements. Thanks to your assistance, we received further information from you and your treating doctor, which we took into consideration in our assessment. Based on this information, we have now gone ahead with the payment of your claim, and without any changes or impact on your BrightRock policy. The assessment process did take longer than our standard claims process, for which we apologise. However, this was because we needed to clarify the additional information, and waited some time to receive the outstanding requirements. Having received all the outstanding details over the past two weeks, we have been able to successfully conclude the assessment and payment of your claim.  Kind regardsThe BrightRock team
