Dear Kevin N Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. We’ve asked for one of our senior managers to be in contact with you regarding your policy and the cover you have. It’s important to understand that you’ve purchased risk-only life insurance. A risk-only life policy or pure risk life insurance policy provides life insurance only, without any savings or investment component, which means you are covered for the risk events you’ve insured with us. Most life insurers in South Africa offer pure-risk or risk-only cover. Risk policies usually pay out for events like illness, injury, or if the insured person passes away. It is similar, in a way, to a short-term insurance policy where you would be paid out if your insured property were to be damaged, but you would not be paid out a surrender value when cancelling your cover with the insurer. So, while a policyholder is paying their life insurance premiums, they have the peace of mind of knowing that they and their loved ones are paid out if they were to become seriously ill, disabled, or should they pass away. This is very different from a savings or investment product, where your monthly contributions would be invested or earn interest and would be paid out to you on cancellation. Your yearly premium increases ensure that your cover is able to grow over time in line with your changing needs, and to ensure you can sustain your cover for the time period that it’s needed.  We will ensure that someone is in touch with you to take you through this information in more detail and to answer any questions you may have. We hope this information addresses your concerns. Kind regardsThe BrightRock team
