Brightrock pathetic , poor communication, misleading and takes no accountability at all!

In 2020 I took out a policy with Brightrock insurers for Retrenchment cover, Dreaded disease and life cover. the main reason why I moved to them was because they offered retrenchment cover. After 3 years paying them for this policy in my time of need they took 5-6 months to review my claim and finally did not honor my retrenchment claim , stating that the policy was not ceded to the financial institution, where another financial provider whose policy was ceded didn't even pay this to the institution but to me when honoring my claim I even used this as proof to appeal to Brightrock for 5 months to reconsider but they never provided proper feedback , discussion were between my financial adviser Eugene Mare ( IQ insurance ) and Bright Rock, the 2 had meetings from August till December with not solid conclusion. Brightrock insists they informed the advisor , Advisor argues he wasn't trained by Brightrock on this and was not aware that this needs to be ceded. In this time I wait 5 months for answers from Brightrock and IQ insurance as to who will take responsibility. If the financial advisor was at fault what happens here , he continues negligently representing clients and placing their interests with institutions like Brightrock who never once indicated to the client that the policy wasn't ceded, yet in 2020 they were able to inform me directly as a reminder to have blood tests done but now argue its not there responsibility to advise that their condition is to have the cover ceded , instead they charge you for 3 years and when you have a valid claim regrettably decline you. The fact that both the financial advisor who punted for Brightrock's excellent service, so he receives a larger commission on his policy has no record of this requirement and brightrock inssist they informed him , neither can conclude who will honour my claim , I hold both responsible but especially Brightrock! How do you sell a policy , accept that your it needs to be ceeded where no where in my policy does it speak to this requirement , continue to charge me and then say it wasn't ceded. Anyway ceding it mean that the financial institution becomes the owner of this policy , how do you expect to cede this to multiple institutions for one and even in the end if it wasn't ceded how do you decline a claim for such a reason??? I had retrenchment cover with 2 other institutions which paid out my claims ceded or not with no funny issues , except Brightrock.

As the client I now pay the price for neglect , miscommunication and misleading information between IQ insurance & Brightrock. I waited 5 months continuing to pay this policy because each week they were reviewing and reviewing this from August till November with poor communication, snapshots from their manuals which were never sent to me to prove their point , failing to provide proof of where did they state this to me upon inception of this policy.

a huge company like Brightrock, takes 5 months on a retrenchment claim. we take out insurance for security in times of need , but if they can do this with a retrenchment claim imagine a life , disability or dreaded disease claim. I already see multiple negative reviews about this company which I failed to review upfront before engaging with them.

Brightrock is poor on communication, delayed, misleading, pathetic and an absolutely useless institution to deal with.

I was asked to wait until Friday the 23 February 2024 after anyway waiting 5 months or more for Brightrock , it really isn't a surprise that no one got back to me as they promised. Supposedly this was being escalated to the head of claims and the distribution head ,just goes to prove the poi t that Brightrock isn't a trustable organization they cannot honor their word under any circumstances....here we go again waiting another 5months !

 dear Jyotisha S

We’ve investigated your complaint and will be sending you an email with detailed feedback addressing the key issues you’ve highlighted.

Our records show that we reached and communicated a decision to your financial adviser within six weeks of receiving your claims documents. They also show that all of the policy documentation we shared with you, including the Cover Proposal that you accepted through a recorded cover confirmation call, and your policy document included an explanation of the debt instalment protector and the criteria for a claim. The debt instalment protector is not a standard retrenchment benefit aimed at replacing your income on retrenchment, but – as indicated by its name – is specifically aimed at covering a single debt need on retrenchment. The policy documents that we sent you clearly explain the requirement that the policy must be ceded to the relevant financial institution. In the absence of such a cession, retrenchment on its own would not qualify for a claim.

In terms of the communication sent to you, it is important to note that the financial adviser is the nominated representative of the policyholder, and our approach is always to communicate with your financial adviser, unless you have not given consent for us to do so. We also send key documentation directly to our clients, copying their financial adviser. We have included copies of the communication in our detailed email to you for your reference, and have also included information regarding the recourse you have to the FAIS Ombud and the office of the Long-term Insurance Ombudsman if you remain unsatisfied with our decision.

We understand your disappointment that you were unable to claim successfully on your retrenchment, and would be very happy to arrange a meeting or telephone call to discuss the matter with you in person as well.

We hope this will allay your concerns regarding our claims process and the information we disclosed to you.

Kind regards,

The BrightRock team
