Brightrock Claims Nightmare :(

My broker convinced me that Brightrock is the best choice just over a year ago. We signed up and now I am regretting changing from Discovery to Brightrock. I broke my leg 3.5months ago. We are busy with a loss of income claim, which is on going for nearly 6weeks. Silly me, trusting my broker I never read the fine print: If your policy is, less than 2 years old and you claim they will scrutinize your entire medical history for the past 5 years. I am running around trying to get doctors consultations, x-rays etc. for EVERYTHING NOT RELATED TO MY BROKEN LEG. Brightrock will only consider my claim once they have FULLY checked my entire history to make sure I did not lie on the original application. When I asked my consultant at Brightrock why this was not done when I originally app**** she said they only very the information when one submits a claims. I cannot see what a Dr visits in 2012 or x-rays in 2014 where no follow up treatments were needed has to do with a freak accident in 2018. Again, I have been told that it is policy and if they see we did not disclose EVERYTHING on our application, they will proceed to cancel our policies with them. Not what I expected… Very disappointed in the way this is being handled by Brightrock.

Dear Louiseb

I'm so sorry to hear about the delay in finalising your claim. I have been in touch with our claims department, and they have confirmed that your claim was approved earlier today and that payment will be made shortly. They will be in touch with you directly with the details of the payment. Meanwhile, we are investigating why it took so long to finalise your claim and will provide you with feedback shortly.

Dear Louiseb

As promised, we’ve looked into the reason for the delay on your claim and our claims team will be in touch with you to provide you with more detailed feedback. The reason for the delay was that we were awaiting information in support of your claim, as well as information on your past medical history.

When we assess claims for policies that have been on our books for less than two years, we validate the information that was provided to us at the time of application. This is a standard risk management process in the insurance industry. Some insurers actually have a five-year validation period, but the majority – like BrightRock – have a two-year period.

Unfortunately, the process of gathering this information does sometimes take time, especially where we are reliant on third parties to provide reports. If we receive all the supporting documents for a trauma claim like yours, we will make our claims decision in the interim without waiting for the medical history. In your case, however, it took longer than usual for us to receive the information in support of your claim. Once the details in support of your claim were received, we were able to pay your claim.

Our sincere apologies for the delay and best wishes for your recovery.

Kind regards,

Amanda @BrightRock

Hi Amanda, thank you for your response. I wish all this was true though. BrightRock insisted on checking and verifying every single note made on my record from my GP as well as my medical aid since 2012. it did not matter that my claim was trauma related - same policy had to be followed, at least that is what your agent who handled my claim said. this was proven as I had to get x-rays and sonar scans and reports for unrelated checks done not relating to my broken leg AFTER I supplied all the relevant paperwork from the doctors, hospital and Discovery Medical aid. the delay was because you had to very why I had a sonar done in 2014 and why I had a spine and neck MRI done in 2014, why I saw a dr in 2015. Nothing to do with my trauma case in 2018. anyway all is done now. Nothing will give back the time I lost running around trying to get the info you needed, nor will it change the terrible experience I had with your claim process.
