Deceptive practices and lack of care for disabled residents at Bread of Life

We enrolled our disabled daughter, who has Cerebral Palsy (CP), at Bread of Life Healing Ministry near Sabie based on the promises on their website and explicit undertakings made by the owner during our visit. Unfortunately, our experience was a complete nightmare, and we feel 100% deceived. The website promises a safe, nurturing place of restoration with eco-therapy, equestrian therapy, vocational training, 24-hour medical nurse access, and inclusive services tailored to individuals with disabilities. The reality is the exact opposite: • Broken Infrastructure Promises: The owner explicitly undertook to smooth the walkway from the Wendy house to House 1, and to build ramps for easy access into House 1, the kitchen, and the House 2 lounge. Absolutely nothing was done, leaving the environment unsafe and inaccessible for our daughter. • Verbal Abuse and Lack of Dignity: The owner treats residents with a complete lack of dignity, using name-calling and constant threats. Her claimed "Christ-centered guidance" is nothing more than rigid rules and condemnation. • Severe Emotional and Physical Trauma: After 10 weeks, we removed our daughter on our first allowed visit. She is completely traumatised, highly anxious, and terrified of the owner. This extreme stress caused her CP spasms to become constant. The fear even resulted in bed-wetting—which the owner heartlessly dismissed as "being naughty" and doing it on purpose for attention. Our daughter now requires professional counseling to recover from the verbal abuse she endured. • Substandard Living Conditions: The rooms are dirty, cold, dark, and vastly different from the website photos. Residents are forbidden from turning on lights during the day. We even had to pay an extra R1,000 per month just to allow her to use an electric blanket, which is medically necessary to prevent her spasms in the cold.

We trusted this registered dependence center to care for our vulnerable child. Instead, she was subjected to an environment devoid of love, care, and basic empathy. Please be warned before trusting this facility with your loved ones.
