No spares thus forcing you to repurchase

I have an Oral B Triumph 5000 electric toothbrush (or should say HAD) and the charger seems to have packed up. Contacted Oral B who referred me to a company which advised that they do not keep spares for this model. This in essence means that I now have to go and purchase a complete new package at a cost of just below R3,000. Why is it that one finds charges for cheaper models or is this just a way to get people to spend exorbitant amounts on new toothbrushes as soon as the guarantee expires? I see that international companies stock these chargers so why not SA?
