PAYING FOR SERVICE YOU ARE NOT GETTING.

I decided to deregister on the 11th of April as I want to pursue my studies in a different field in 2018, and adhered to the subscribed procedures which state that I need to submit my cancellation by way of a cancellation form. This was performed on the 11th of April 2017.

According to the standard agreement obtained from Brainline, I am entitled to a refund for my remaining examinations, as the cancellation clause in the prescribed agreement specifically states that all cancellations submitted within 20 BUSINESS DAYS of the preceding examinations is subject to a full refund of the examinations not written.

My exam dates remaining are as follow:
31 May
5 June
12 June
19 June
14 August
21 August
28 August
4 September
The above dates exclude the IEB exams which were not disclosed to me at this stage.
The total cost per single subject is R 4 400.
I was registered for 2 subjects
This includes 5 examinations, Thus:
4400/5 = R880
880*4 remaining exams(I forfeit the money for the exams written) = 3 520
3 520 *2 subjects = R7 040
IEB exams = R1 900
Total = R 8 940
I have no more access to your online program or online study material as you removed me from the data base, there is no reason for you to charge me additional costs for this.
The above calculation is a fair reflection of a reasonable refund due to me, excluding the IEB exam fees which is an additional R1 900 as stated by Brainline, which is the only refund you are willing to allow, even though this is not correct as per the standard agreement.

Based on the above, my cancellation form was submitted on the 11th of April (see email correspondence attached) which meets your requirements of 20 business days,11 April to 31 May is 32 business days excluding weekends and public holidays).

As per your feedback, I will only receive a discount for the IEB exams, which, according the standard agreement (Clause 22.2) is a contradiction as I adhered to the prescribed cancellation period.

Please amend my refund amount based on the above which is in line with Brainline's standard agreement.

After this email they rep**** :

As it stands, we are not refunding any matriculant fees including the IEB examination registration fee.

Yours has been considered by exception and motivation.

I have attached a report indicating your use on brainONLINE for the period that your account was active.

Kindly awaiting your bank details for the refund of the IEB examination fees.

I rep****:

I am a young student with limited financial resources and need as much as I can to pursue my studies in the next year.
I decided to pursue a different study field next year as it is a tough decision regarding what I want to do in future. I just feel that based on my account being settled in full at the start of the year already, I deserve a better refund than stated as I do not receive any support from my parents and have to use my limited income in order to pay my study fees.

Please consider this as I am devastated by your reply. I find it very hard to understand how you could deregister me this quickly and refuse to re-instate me and then refuse to refund me. Is this how Brainline conduct their business?

I don't want to be difficult I am pleading as I am not spoilt like most youngsters are and have to doc up this cash by myself.
Please consider the above and re assess my refund, or I can schedule a meeting to discuss the above as I do not have this kind of money to lose and you as a professional body are being very unreasonable, I hardly utilised what I pay for but yet you charge me in full?

Its not like I failed and now want money back, that I could understand, why have an agreement that does not even protect your students?
I had to pay additionally for the exam centre and an invigilator?
