Just wanted to close my mother's account
The death of a parent is hard enough without the unnecessary stress of dealing with rude people.
My mom passed away and I promptly contacted Bradlows via telephone to notify them of her passing and close her account. I explained to the person on the other side that I cannot go to the physical store. He then gave me the number of the insurance company Abacus.
I telephone Abacus and I am told to go to the store. I repeatedly told the person on the other end that I cannot go to a physical Bradlows store. I am then given an email address to send a certified copy of my mothers ID and death cert. I do this. I get a response stating that I must go to the store. I again let the person on the other end, know via an email, that I cannot go to the physical store. The person on the other end and I exchange emails until I get tired.
This morning someone else form Abacus calls me. She claims that I refused to go to the store. I explain to her that I did not refuse to go, I cannot go. She claimed she is trying to meet me half way by suggesting to me with what she deems reasonable alternatives. 1) I take a taxi to a Bradlows store during my lunch break. 2) I ask a colleague to take me.
I again in different languages say: I cannot go to a physical store. I will be more than happy to fill out the forms provided on their official website. The lady on the other end again rudely asks me how I get to work if there is no transport to go to a physical shop. I found myself having to explain my working hours and personal working situation.
I am an adult, I have perfect reasoning abilities, if I had an easy way to go to a physical shop I would of done it.
I have now received a sms claiming that Abacus has received my claim but do not have the claim form.
I do not gain anything from all this. All I wanted to do was close my mothers affairs. I did not expect to be disrespected to this degree. My advice to both companies is to make sure that your staff understands that death is a very sensitive subject. It is emotional enough and being rude to clients is unacceptable.
