*********, Unprofessional, and Racially Offensive – My Experience with David Hargreaves

In April, I consulted David Hargreaves, owner of this business, to build a custom firepit for my home. I explained that I previously had a firepit from Blue Stone Fires by Keith Hamilton, which lasted over 10 years and was used for both braais and fires. I showed David photos of the fires I’d made to confirm whether his firepits could withstand similar use. He confidently claimed his firepits were superior — capable of handling larger, stronger fires — and even disparaged the previous business.

I made it clear that my design was complex due to its shape, but at no point did David express any concerns or limitations. He quoted, accepted payment, and began building the firepit, assuring me it would meet my requirements.

Fast-forward to October: David has returned three times to repair the firepit — each time after I made a simple braai, not even a full fire. The damage from poor workmanship is severe. Pieces of the pit are falling off, and the potjie holders can’t support the potjie stick, let alone the pot itself. His most recent repair looked like it was done with mud, seemingly to frustrate me further. He is now refusing to return, ignoring my calls.

Following my last visit to his shop a heated argument pursued at his premises, where he swore at me and made racial remarks toward his own staff — in front of me, on his business floor.

I did not pay for a partially functional firepit. I paid for a fully working one. I am now unable to use it for braais or fires. David has failed to deliver the promised service, and in doing so, has effectively ****** from me.

Having read other reviews from frustrated customers, I expect David will deny everything and make false claims about what was said or agreed upon. However, I have proof: • WhatsApp conversations showing his agreements and failures to deliver. • Messages where he denies being informed, followed by screenshots proving otherwise. • A voice recording of him making racial slurs toward his staff. • Photos and videos of the poor workmanship.

I am willing to share this evidence with anyone who wishes to verify the truth and counter any false claims he may make.

I regret not reading other reviews beforehand and wasting my money on this ********* and illegitimate business. I should have seen the red flag when he immediately criticized his competition during our first meeting.

Ironically, I’ve since learned he is now somehow partnered with Blue Stone Fires — I’d be very interested to hear their view on this.
