USE BOOKING.COM AT YOUR OWN RISK
I strongly advise anyone traveling to the UK to NOT use Booking.com to book accommodation. I had the most horrific experience in London two months ago. The apartment was advertised on Booking.com as costing R2,600 per night. When I arrived at the property, they advised me that I also owed approximately R1,500 for cleaning services. Plus a deposit in the region of R5,000. None of these additional costs were clear when I made the booking. Furthermore, the place was truly disgusting. Filthy dirty with litter and old food lying around. I took photos to send to Booking.com. One customer agent called me to say he agreed completely with my complaint and would seek full compensation. When I followed up I was told that I was entitled to no compensation and they would take no further action. The Customer Service was diabolical. No interest whatsoever in me as a regular customer. I thought they would be concerned about customers being so badly misled by opportunistic landlords. They could not care less.
