Non-existent booking

Made a booking at a lodge 2 weeks ago and it was confirmed. Because I had made a special request to check-in later, I was not getting a response from the host, and couldn't reach them on numbers provided, I traveled to the place to check what is happening. Upon arrival I was informed that they do not make use of booking.com. I made that booking so I don't have to travel at night after a late event, but since there was no booking & I did not have enough time to look for other places, and also had to wait for a refund, I ended up traveling at night. Booking.com put my life at risk.
