Money deducted without a booking!

I did a hotel booking via booking .com. the money was deducted from my credit card and a message came up immediately saying that there was an error, the booking could not be done, my money will be refunded 7-14 working days. I called Bookings.com and was adviced by the agent to do another Booking. Where am i to get the money to do another booking?. This is no fault of mine. It is totally unacceptable. If the booking did not go through, why was my money deducted?
