Irate traveler
I made a booking on Booking.com, the place's name in question is listed as Travel centre. I made the booking on Saturday 05 Jan 2019 to check in on Monday 07 Jan 2019. Upon arrival I was uncertain of the check in procedure. we were also uncertain as to where the place was as it is in the centre of town. We asked around and were informed where to collect the key. I then contact the host who was not there to meet us who then only sent me check-in details etc. via email and Whatsapp. When we went to the apartment myself nor my husband and children were comfortable with the safety and security of the place and then also found out the tha car has to be parked at a different premise, a parking lot across the road. I immediately informed the host and asked that he refund me, as we were not satisfied. I was however not refunded and then only to see that I was not billed R750p/night as per all the communication sent to date including the cancellation note. But I was charged an additional R 250 cleaning fee for being in the apartment for not even a full 5 minutes. And no where on the site or any of the other communication was there ever a mention of this R 250 cleaning fee. So I in effect lost a total of R 1000 for no service delivered. and paid for a cleaning service that was not ever mentioned. Booking.com simply said that this was the policy, upfront payment and no refund for cancelling on the day. I feel this is unfair when you get to your accommodation and find that it is not up to the required standard, that you still have to pay the full amount. I understand there would be a cancellation fee, but the full rate is a bit ridiculous, as I had to find alternate accommodation for the night and still pay for that. I feel it is false advertising and the host should be ashamed. I assume this is the only way he makes money with that horrible apartment.
