Inefficient booking agents and responses
We booked on the 4 Sept for a one night stay on the 13th. At first we were unaware it was shared, until the owner advised us via booking.com, then giving us an option to upgrade or cancel at a lower fee, which we declined and agreed to share. No further communication was received from the owner as per booking.com message on the 7th, so we were under the impression our booking was secure. When we arrived the 13th, Nicolas the owner thought we were another couple, which gave me the impression he was expecting another booking to arrive. He advised us about trying to call us the entire day, as he was no longer able to rent the apartment room, due to a broken toilet. With no roaming and only Wi-Fi access, we never received any of his calls or messages. When I asked why he never responded via booking.com, he became extremely arrogant and proceeded to say he was doing us a favor by waiting on us all day to try and find an alternative solution, which was not necessary on his part. We suggested we were happy to rent as is, and could use a toilet facility at a restaurant in the meantime, given the area had many places available, which he refused. When I broke down crying, he was unsympathetic that we had been on a train from Switzerland 5hrs or that our Uber driver dropped us at the wrong address, which resulted in us walking 30m to find the apartment in the rain. He kept on referring to force majeure, and that either I stop crying and being emotional or leave his property as once, as he would like to assist us in finding another property in the area. When I finally composed myself and realized I needed his assistance at that point, he was able to find us another hotel, which unfortunately costs us more than double and with no breakfast either. I find this experience could have been avoided completely, had there been follow through from booking.com in the correct manner. I will be taking this matter to social media across all platforms, as not only did we incur additional expenses, but had to walk a distance in a country new to us, to find alternative accommodation.
