**** reviews on Booking.com - bad for business with Covid19
As a B&B owner booking.com was always my go to to help fill empty rooms and to assist guests to source alternative venues when I was full. I have had a long and fruitful relationship with them over a period of 7 or so years. Roll on 2020 and booking.com introduced a new review system. And there went my review score on their site. From a standard average of 9.5 plus for the last 7 years to 9.1 in less than 6 months even with covid 19 and very few guests. I have always run in the top 5 on TripAdvisor as well to give context. The new system is confusing and not reflective at all of my establishment, and added to that, most of the people writing these reviews have not even stayed at my property, they are PA's or friends booking staff or family members. And yes the booking is being paid for but there is no notification given on booking.com that this is a third party booking hence there is no option for the actual guest to review us. How is this supposed to help future guests make a decision based on factual reviews. So for the second time this year I wrote to booking.com in the hope that they would maybe reconsider a **** review. A generic response is exactly what I expected and again booking did not disappoint....they really only care about the bottom line and my little B&B does not matter to them. I am now seriously considering removing my listing with booking. I have had many years of great sales in conjunction with this site but with the changed review system and **** reviews I am receiving it may no longer be of any use for me to continue on their site as all it will do is impact negatively on my online presence/score. So think carefully when using bookig.com's reviews to decide where to stay. Do your homework and pool your reviews from many sources and not just one before you make a decision to book. You may be very pleasantly surprised at what you find.....
