I would strongly recommend thinking twice before booking accommodation through Booking.com.

A friend of mine lost money on a *****ulent accommodation listing in Durban on 14 June, and despite raising the issue with Booking.com, they have been of absolutely no help.

Now my parents have experienced essentially the same thing with a *****ulent accommodation listing in Canada — and once again, Booking.com has provided no meaningful assistance.

At this point, it is extremely difficult to understand how a platform can continue allowing accommodation listings that result in customers losing money and then seemingly wash their hands of the situation afterwards.

Whether these ****s are happening because Booking.com is failing to properly vet listings, failing to act on reports, or simply refusing to take responsibility afterwards, the result for the customer is the same: you lose your money and Booking.com doesn't seem to care.

I will never use Booking.com again.

My advice: deal directly with the accommodation provider where possible and avoid putting your money and trust in Booking.com.

Two separate experiences involving people close to me are more than enough to make me say: never again.
