Booking.com / Woodford Car hire Sandton

I recently booked to hire a vehicle in June 2024 via booking.com platform using my debit card which was accepted and the money taken from my account, but on arrival at Woodford car hire in Sandton they only accept credit cards for the deposit. I then cancelled my booking with Woodford and left, to date I have not received a refund as I am being told that there is no refund. My point being why did you take the initial payment, you could have credit card bookings only. Woodford car hire has the worst customer service.
