Booking.com ****!!!

I booked an apartment, Bay Views in Sea Point through booking.com From 8 to 10 March, paid for the 2 nights. When we arrived there, we connect to the number provided by booking.com but with no luck!! We eventually made contact with booking.com but even they could not get in contact or got any response out of the host or the property. My conclusion is that this was a big **** of a bogus place...even booking.com could not see that. What does that say about their security measures to let something like that happened!! I am now struggling to get my money back from them but with no luck!!
