Good day, I have been using Booking.com for a few years now. It came to my attention a few weeks back that guests are complaining that they are paying more than what we advertise for on Booking.com. I went into the websites and saw that there is prices loaded not remotely correct. Phoned Booking.com support twice, with great frustration, because of the accent barrier, and then got told that they load these prices on the websites, because they pay the difference in on the guests behalf due to Covid-19, as a gesture of being gentle on some guests, but that not every guest is receiving this perk. I asked but how must I know these things, as my notifications for a booking that I received only shows my paying price and whether its been paid successfully or being rejected. They told me that if a guest makes a booking online, there is small little "i" in a circle next to the paying price and the guests will read there why the prices is so different from ours. My question was and is, how many guests will actually read this information, as a guest wants ONLY TO PAY WHAT THEY SEE!! I as Owner didn't even know this. We don't get informed about any updates from Booking.com . The guy then told me that when a guests payment was rejected and needs to be paid at my establishment, the guests must show me the Confirmation that they have received from booking.com in regards to the paying price., and that I shouldn't charge them any more than what the confirmation shows. We do not run a 24 hour reception, when they do last minute reservations, I can not come out in the middle of the night to check confirmations on a guests phone?? Its ridiculous, since we didn't even know that there was something like this. So how is it possible for a place like booking.com to do all these adjustments and changes on there own, and not informing Establishments how things is working. Its like they expect us to just automatically know these things. If I was the only establishment complaining, fair, but there is a few Establishments in our town, complaining about the same thing. We have been opting out of preferred programs many many times, they just add you again. The commission we pay on certain prefer programs is extremely high. I wasn't even aware of the fact that I was registered on some of these programs, I just saw on my monthly statements that the commission I was charged, was way higher than agreed. At the end of the month we pay a huge amount of commission to booking.com for bringing in business, but with very unhappy guests due to no communication from booking.com's side, and THAT is unacceptable, because booking.com makes the Establishments look like fools!! Our main concern is that guests only want to pay what they see, they don't even know where to look for extra information, and that is where the confusion enters between guests and establishments. the way booking.com advertises prices for establishments on the websites at the moment is not a good way of promotion.
