Booking.com leak personal and banking Info
RMB / FNB & Booking.com .
I made hotel reservations via Booking.com and had to give my card detail to confirm the booking , this is a standard procedure . I used my $ Global Account . Booking.com leaked my details of my trip and my card detail . Next I received a message from the hotel that I need to make payment with a link to a Booking.com site , where my card detail was pre-populated . On approving the payment the bank send me an OTP . The next moment I noticed the payment was duplicated $ 1770.18 x 2 . I immediately inform the ***** department at RMB/FNB before the funds left my account , the payment was pending for 3 days . RMB send me from pillar to post and finally to my private banker . The bank agreed that it was ***** and said the are many other cases with the booking agent , but they did nothing and approved the transaction . RMB refuse to return the funds , they place all the blame on me , they don’t even take responsibility for the duplicate transaction .
As a client, I rely on RMB / FNB’s commitment to protecting customers against *****. Unfortunately, my card details were leaked via Booking.com—without any fault of my own—and the vendor who received them deducted $1,770.18 twice from my account.
The bank has maintained that I provided the vendor with the OTP; however, this was clearly a sophisticated ****, and standard inter-bank procedures were not properly followed. To clarify:
1. I did not share my card details with the vendor, but the payment was presented on Booking.com letterhead with my card details already prepopulated. 2. The vendor triggered the OTP from the bank, and then a second OTP was generated within minutes for the exact same amount, as the transaction appeared unpaid on my side. 3. I reported the incident immediately via the banking app and call center, speaking with five agents and then being referred to my personal manager. 4. The bank acknowledged it was a *****ulent case and even stated there have been similar incidents involving the same booking agent. 5. At this stage, the transaction was still pending, the funds were still in my account, yet the bank approved the *****ulent payment. 6. I believe the bank shares responsibility, especially since the ***** was flagged before the funds left my account. 7. I stopped my card and received a new one, despite being told it was unnecessary as my card was not compromised. 8. No goods or services were received, nor will I receive any in the future, yet two deductions were made from my account.
