Booking.com - Appalling Service
I made a booking through booking.com as I usually do. My trip is planned for 01 July -03 July. My flights are booked with Kulula and at this present moment Kulula is grounded and there is no sight of seeing them back in the air in the near future. The prices of other airlines are exorbitant for that specific weekend and it is completely out of my affordability. I am stranded and not able to travel.
I reached out to booking.com to assist me with a situation beyond my control, i fully understand that a refund is not possible. At this point all that i am requesting is either date change or a voucher that i can use in future.
Ive reached out to booking.com and all that they respond with is : "Unfortunately, your booking *** is facilitated by a partner company (Destinations of the World) and cannot be cancelled or modified because it is a non-refundable rate. You can find this information during the booking process and in your confirmation email. We are very sorry that you are unable to travel but due to the strict condition of this reservation, we cannot refund nor cancel the reservation"
I have even sent them the communication from Kulula stating that operations are grounded. I do not want to wait until the last minute, so i took a pro active approach to reach out to *** now. Their response is absolutely shocking and disappointing. I have only ever used their platform to make my bookings.
I called the hotel directly and they have no problem changing the dates but cannot assist as I did not book with them directly. Again, i fully understand that a refund is not possible but i am not understanding why i am not able to change the date or get a voucher.
I also realized that i was charged an exorbitant rate for the weekend, the hotel itself has a price of R1750 for 2 nights and I was charged R2856.56 for the same dates. I always trusted that booking.com has the best deals and now my view has changed.
I am really not interested in their lack of interest and generic responses, I want to know exactly what the reason is that i cannot be assisted. I am not prepared to loose out on R2856.56 for a situation that was beyond my control.
I dont consider my request as unreasonable at all and I will really appreciate for some empathy and flexibility with regard to my booking.
Below is link to validate the situation with Kulula : https://www.news24.com/fin24/companies/even-if-comair-gets-money-in-time-flights-will-only-likely-restart-in-september-***8
If the hotel has no problem with allowing a change, why is it that Booking.com cant? Is it because they inflated their prices for that specific weekend due to the July Handicap?
This is really unacceptable and really unfair.
Yes they cannot be held liable for the airline, I understand that, but why is it that they cannot understand my situation!!!
