Booking confirmations that have no value

Booked a cottage on the Booking.com website and they sent me confirmation of my booking. The venue Scali Wine Cottage contacts me and tells me they fully booked and my confirmation means nothing. Please be aware that a confirmation from Booking.com means you have not secured your stay and you could find yourself with no where to stay.
