Be careful, be very careful

Early in July 2016 my wife was looking for accommodation in Berlin, Germany for September 2016 and browsed the booking.com site for something suitable. She made an enquiry about the Nordic Hotel Berlin-Mitte, and the next thing she knew a large amount was deducted off her credit card account.

All booking.com's correspondence start with the phrase "You can always view, change or cancel your booking online at your.booking.com". DON'T BELIEVE IT! My wife found other more suitable and affordable accommodation in Berlin and attempted to cancel the booking with booking.com, only to be told that the booking could not be cancelled.

She made several international telephone call to booking.com in London and in Spain, as well as directly to the hotel in Berlin. According to the hotel booking.com forbids them to cancel a booking, and booking.com says that she is welcome to cancel the booking but that she would forfeit the full fee paid.

In order to not lose the money, my wife now has to make use of the booking. Booking.com charged her 199 euro per night, and according to the hotel's website their normal rate is around 56,10 euro per night.

We have submitted a ***** report via Visa, but so far have not had any feedback.
