Worst medical aid ever

This is the worst medical aid I have ever been on and need to share my experience so others don't fall into the same trap I did initially when I was told that Bonitas is the affordable option. My personal experience has proven that this is far from the truth. There are TWO issues that I can really highlight: 1) Their disastrous administration. I've faced constant issues with lost paperwork, and they cannot track claims and requests effectively. (Eg: submitted paperwork in JULY and they are still using a JUNE version… we are in AUGUST 😭). This level of admin incompetence obviously creates huge stress and unnecessary delays in claims or accessing benefits. 2) High hidden costs and high co-payments EVERYWHERE. Despite having a medical aid, I've been forced to cover a substantial portion of my own medical expenses. Even for my chronic condition, I have high co-payments for my medication. So it seems that their "affordability" is only valid if you are never sick, never take medicine, and never see a doctor—a completely unrealistic expectation for a medical aid! I actually took the time to tally up my co-payments and my monthly debits and it turned out that this "affordable" medical aid was more expensive than a superior plan (somewhere else) that covered everything. Do yourself a favour and do the same calculation and make the change to save yourself the stress of dealing with unexpected medical expenses and an *********** team on the phone or via email (not sure which one is worse since they all lose records and then pass you on to another department or put you on hold).
