Unreliable service provider - Pharmacy Direct

The service provided by Pharmacy Direct is a disgrace. Bonitas insists (a more accurate description would be “forces”) patients to use Pharmacy Direct for the distribution of medication. This would be acceptable if the service provided by Pharmacy Direct was superior. But unfortunately, this is far from the truth.

Due to the above I am dependent on Pharmacy Direct to deliver my parents’ (85 and 88 respectively) chronic medication. But let me tell you – the monthly box of medication is like a lucky packet. You never know when it will arrive, neither what will be in the box.

This month (delivered last week) the following items were omitted from the box:

Ventolin, which is vitally important for an asthma / COPD patient (actually, I cannot remember when last this was delivered, so I just buy it for my mother out of my own pocket);
2 x Cilift, any disruption in this medication has a severe impact on the mental health of a patient (any doctor and pharmacist should know this);
Altosec;
Donacept 10mg, again any disruption in this medication has a severe impact on the mental health of a patient (any doctor and pharmacist should know this).
When I phoned, I was told the account was not up to date – well this is just a load of *******. I received the Donacept yesterday – however no word, update, communication or any form of contact to let me know what is happening with the rest.

Patients must pay additional levies and certain medication is not paid for at all once you reach a certain level if you are using another service provider. It is my opinion that the medical aid is applying bullying tactics and being unfair towards the other players in the industry, leaving paying medical aid members no choice but to just “suck up bad service” or else pay somewhere else.

In conclusion – I found Pharmacy Direct incapable of providing a reliable service to patients with life threatening conditions.

I received a call, but unfortunately I was in a meeting I couldn't answer. I cannot understand the name of the caller, but she requested the medical aid number. Here it is: ********** 9266.
