Unimpressed with Bonitas in 2023

I have been a member of Bonitas for many years and in the past, I have suggested Bonitas as a Medical Aid to friends when asked. After my latest experience with Bonitas, I won't be doing that again.

On the 21 and 24 of April 2023, I went to go see my dermotologist for a mole mapping and my endocrinologist.

1) I have been to BOTH of these doctors before on multiple occasions in years prior 2) For both doctors, I would then submit the invoice and it was paid in full from my savings on each of the 6+ occasions

This time round, after submitting: 1)The claims were first denied because I had not gotten prior approval from a GP (for a mole mapping??) 2) I have never gotten approval for consultations with either doctor in the past

After phoning Bonitas claims and explaining this, I was told that these two claims would be approved but that I must get approval for future consultations.

After this, I was then NOT PAID THE FULL AMOUNT from my savings - which I have always previously been paid.

So it seems that Bonitas has put in more policies now to make it HARDER to make a claim and additional rules to PAY LESS.

On 07 September 2020, I had a consultation with the endocronologist for R2250 - Bonitas paid in full from my savings 01 February 2021, I had a mole mapping with the dermatologist for R2144 - Bonitas paid in full from my savings

24 April 2023, I had a consultation with Dr Magan for R1850 - Bonitas paid R656! 30%!! 21 April 2023 I had a mole mapping with Dr Bue for R1926 - Bonitas Paid R1109 - 60%!!

On complaining multiple times, I get what seems like an autgenerated response that Bonitas pays 100% medical aid rate. Consdering that neither of these doctors have increased their invoice amounts much since 2021, does this mean Bonitas was previously paying more than 100% and not longer does. This has not been communicated to me.

Very unimpressed.

Bonitas contacted me and said that because I had "activated my benefit booster" (how I dont know), this invoice was now paid from Bonitas direct and not my Bonitas savings. This means that only 100% of the medical aid rate was paid.

This makes no sense to me. I am happy for the shortfall to be paid from my savings so that the invoice is still paid IN FULL - but now because of some random benefit booster rule, I am out of pocket at the end of the day! whereas before when this wasnt activated, I was paid back in full.

Ridiculous
